Hans Hysing, an eminent portrait painter of the post Augustian period, was born and educated in Stockholm, Sweden. He was apprenticed first to a goldsmith, and then to David Krafft.
He settled in London in 1700 where he studied under Dahl for many years. By 1715 he was on his own. Dated works range from 1721 - 1739 and his portraits are like those of Dahl, but sometimes livelier and more elegant.

Amongst his most important commissions are a portrait of the daughters of George II (1730), and Sir Robert Walpole (now at King's College, Cambridge).
