This atmospheric view of the Palace of Westminster, viewed from the South bank by Lambeth Palace, shows that Beaumont was influenced by the impressionist views of the Thames by Monet, and by the independent though comparable technique of Whistler. Beaumont's painting shows an understanding of this new vision of landscape.

A significant detail is the light burning at the top of the clocktower, which is a signal that the House of Commons is in session at the moment depicted, a subtelty of observation which animates the painting for the inititate.
