The lady in this painting, perhaps a portrait in the guise of Astrology, carried a portable armillery in her and just as a Court lady might carry a fan. The sumptuous treatment of the red silks of her dress and the expensive lace in her cap and collar and trimming her decolletage typifies the luxury which Beaubrun conveys in his portraits of French aristocrats.
