Henry Pelham served as Whig Prime Minister from 1743 to 1754. He had been a loyal supporter of Walpole and had refused to take over the reigns of Government from him out of loyalty at his fall, waiting until the end of Lord Wilmington's ministry which succeeded him. He was responsible for ending the War of the Austrian Succession and steering the country through the panic of the Stuart Rebeliion in 1745.
